What I learned this summer… stylish sun-safety

This year was definitely THE year when sun-safety took a great big step forward in the style-stakes.

I was that teenage girl in the oversized boys rashie. Partly because I was trying to cover my body, but mostly because I was covered in pale skin.

And while over the years I found body confidence and embraced my body, a lack of stylish sun-safe options meant that I was still rocking a boxy rash top all summer long. But this year, I discovered some GREAT options.

My favourite swimsuit has got to be this gorgeous one by Capriosca Swimwear. Not only because it’s a stunning pattern, and flattering cut – but it also elongates the need for my to rely on hubby’s dodgy sunscreen skills for my back! It also means if it’s just me and the kids, there’s a lot less of my that requires sunscreen so I can quickly get back to the fun! Get the Folklore Roses Frill Zip Swimsuit here. Also in Black and Navy, sizes 10-22 (I’m in a 14).

I wore this SO MUCH over summer. With a toddler, I end up spending a lot of time standing around in shallow water – meaning that I’m totally exposed. The shirt dress sits up high on the back of my neck and covers my bum. It’s perfect for mums. Especially those bending over the kiddy pool constantly.

The Shirt Dress is available in Blue and Black, sizes XS – XL (I’m in the XL). They have loads of other awesome stylish pieces too – check out Honeybell here

As for the hat… I’d been lusting after a Eugenia Kim hat all summer, but my budget just doesn’t stretch that far…

but recently I found this alternative at ASOS and for under $40!!

I’m one very happy (shady) lady!

What were your gold-star items over summer?

  1. I LOVE that hat! And the swimsuit. Def on my wishlist for next summer. I got an amazing wide brimmed floppy hat from Aldi on sale which I love. I also swear by Invisible Zinc for my face and Le Tan sunscreen oil for the body.

  2. Yes, you are right, sun protecting clothing isn’t just for the hunting and fishing minded people with men in particular any longer. Sun protecting clothing is becoming more stylish and catering to women and children also. The popularity is growing leaps and bounds! There’s no longer the blah greens and khaki colors. There’s pink, blue, and purple and they are even styling the clothes so women don’t look masculine. There is one catch, sun-protecting clothing is more expensive but with the increase of sun cancer the additional dollars is well worth it if you are an outdoors enthusiast. But just because you purchase the sun protecting clothing you are not totally protected so always use sunscreen on exposed areas of your skin. The best way of protecting your skin is not to expose your self to long periods of sun.

    Cheers then.
