For those of you who don’t know, a few months ago I was involved in a very exciting photo shoot for one of my all time favourite bloggers – Nikki of Styling You. The photoshoot was for her book – Unlock Your Style, and on Tuesday night, I was lucky enough to be amount the incredibly stylish Sydney bloggerati and fans attending the official launch.
You can imagine the torment of deciding what to wear! Especially since I’m about a week away from my due date, my options were significantly narrowed. A few months ago, I wore a sequin maternity dress to my friend’s ‘Black White and Bling’ themed 30th and Nikki’s book launch seemed like the perfect excuse to get another wear out of this fabulous dress.
Purchased on sale from ASOS, this dress is pretty special, with reversible sequins covering the entire dress, it can change from shiny black to matte silver in the swipe of a hand, which incidentally happens a lot whenever I wear it.
Hoping to tone down the glitz of the dress, I paired it with my Dotti cape blazer and some mesh wedge heels from Dorothy Perkins. In my condition, I knew I wouldn’t be staying at the party for that long, so I wasn’t worried about whether I could stand the heels. I also brought my hubby along for the night (just in case) so I knew we really wouldn’t be staying that long – these events are really not his thing.
I had my makeup done at my Napoleon store. I always love my makeup when it’s done by them, I never really have a clear picture of exactly what I want, but I describe the vibe of the makeup and they always deliver. On this occasion I had asked for something that will be bold enough to match the sequin dress, but not over-the-top glam. Sticking to neutrals, she have me a subtle smokey eye with winged liner and kept my lips defined but not overpowering. It costs $89 to get your makeup done at Napoleon, which is redeemable for product!

There was a raffle with pretty sensational prizes, and I’m not just saying that because I won the best one! With all proceeds going to one of Nikki’s favourite charities, Dress for Success, the crowd gladly dig deep to buy raffle tickets for great prizes donated by some fabulous brands including Schwarzkopf, Sodashi, Indio Skincare, Everyday Cashmere, Face of Australia and Blue Illusion. Then of course, there was the best prize of all… Mine! A custom designed Uberkate necklace for Unlocking Your Style. It’s a stunning and delicate lock design, the same one from the logo of the book and I was over the moon to take it home with me! Nikki will be giving away a few more of these great necklaces in an Instagram competition over the next few weeks so be sure to head over to her IG page for your chance to win one of your very own.
It really was a great turn out, with so many bloggers I love and admire showing their support on the night. I was really proud to be able to share in the celebration with Nikki, I love the book – and not just because there pictures of me in it, but because it’s a really practical guide to tackling so many different dilemmas. There are practical exercises, and places for notes, as well as fabulous pictures. It’s something that I can refer back to as my style changes and it can help my style (and my wardrobe) evolve to suit my stage in life.
