The PERFECT Little Black Dress and GIVEAWAY

It’s a wardrobe staple and women everywhere spend ages searching for the right little black dress (LBD).

For me, the search is over, I’ve found it… The Works-for-everything Versatile LBD.

I could not have been more excited to get my hands on one of the beautiful crafted dresses from The Little Black Dress – an Australian boutique offering customizable LBDs.

With so many dresses on offer, and so many options for hem and sleeve length, it was hard to pick, but I settled on the Ashley.

Ashley is great for my shape (Hourglass) as the V of the mock-wrap top creates a nice neckline, and the tie waist nips me in at my narrowest point. If I was a little more lady-like, I could have opted for this dress as a wrap – but I liked the solid skirt of Ashley as I don’t have to worry about it gaping or unwrapping accidentally. The lovely people at The Little Black Dress Boutique were nice enough to send me both the size 3 and size 4 to try on for size as I was borderline. The good news is that both sizes actually did fit. The fabric is beautiful and the dresses are cut to perfection. The size 3 was a little more busty, and I had a little more room in the size 4.

To show off the versatility of this dress, I’ve styled it for three different occasions – for Work, for a causal BBQ, and for a Date Night with the Hubby!

Workin it at Work

Earlier this week, I posted some tips for adding some POW to your work wardrobe – and for this look I’ve used two of my favourite techniques – a Bold Blazer and a Statement Necklace.

This blazer was picked up for an absolute steal from Katies in the Christmas sale. Truth be told it’s a little too small (size 12) but workable as an open bold blazer. I turned up the cuff to tied the blazer back to the black dress.

To safeguard against any wardrobe malfunctions from the low cut V-neckline, I’ve popped a bandeau bra on underneath – better to be safe than sorry in the office!

This statement necklace was from Etsy ages ago, but I have seen plenty similar available in shops like eQuip and Colette since. The boots are from the wide calf Sara boots available through Ezibuy.

Neon Pops for BBQ Lunch

One of the greatest things about an LBD is the ability to have a little fun with your outfit!

Channelling a little bit of Nina Proudman (from Offspring) I’ve added a Denim-look casual scarf. The soft chambray look dresses down the LBD.

I kept jewellery simple with a neon yellow bangle from Kmart… and continued to have a little fun by wearing some bright Coral summer wedges from Big W. The simplicity of the dress doesn’t compete with the intricate laser-cut work of the shoes.

Va-Va-Voom Date Night

Is there anything sexier than red lips, gold and leopard print? No, I didn’t think so!

To dress this LBD up for date night I’m wearing this great wide Gold Belt from City Chic. It’s the perfect big glam accessory to add a touch if glitz.

Leaving the plunging neckline to speak for itself, I’ve opted for big dangly black and gold statement earrings.

This leopard print clutch was a last minute addition. I have NO idea where I picked it up… I have a sneaking suspicion that once upon a time it may have been a makeup bag, but it’s just a touch if sexy-naughtiness to the outfit.

The suede platform heels are from Torrid, and although they are pretty heavy, they also make me feel sexy.

In terms if the-LBD.com – the dress that I’m wearing goes up to a size 16-18. But fear not, I’ve searched the internet to find the best value plus size options as well!

  1. I LOVE the April. I’m obsessed with dresses that have sleeves at the moment and I think the mock wrap shape would be really flattering on me. The length is also perfect. Plus I could easily wear it for work and play. And it’s perfect for wearing with tights and boots for the colder months and then on its own and wedges or sandals for summer!

  2. I’m tossing up between Emma or Erin. Both are gorgeous, but in Canberra winters, Erins longer sleeves might allow me to wear a dress and boots (my fave look).

  3. I think I have to agree with the expert on this one and go with the ASHLEY! It really is stunning. But more than that, I think it is flattering, age appropriate but most of all it is versatile. The sleeve length is perfect for all seasons as you can add a cami, a cardigan or a jacket if needed. Also the solid skirt means that you can add a variety of belts to change the look. I love the V neck because it can be a little sexier and the waist tie hits at the right spot to gives shape…..Definitely an investment piece and a wardrobe staple.

  4. I like the Emma because I’m a big fan of cap sleeves and wraps so it’s a win-win! Hope I win-win this perfect LBD!

  5. The Emma would suit me well, the wrap feature will hide my flaws and the A-line skirt will define a feminine look.

  6. I love the ‘Audrey’ because it’s:
A great cut for my figure,
    Usable for all occassions, length
    Doesn’t have sleeves,
    Round neckline,
    Elegant design,
Yearn to get something that looks this great on me!

  7. I like the MIRANDA as it is casual which can either be dressed up or dressed down depending on the accessories you add.

  8. After many years of searching for a LBD, I stumbled accross
this site and WOW! The April looks perfect!! The sleeve length,
shape, neckline, all of it! AT LAST!

  9. for me it is the Bethany (sp?) it is the only empire waist . I love a dress that can be dressed up or down. I like a dress that I can do anything in and wash as needed.

  10. I would choose the Erin (http://www.the-lbd.com/shop-by-style/classic-lbd/Erin) because I’m huge on wrap dresses & I love a dress with sleeves (no jacket required!).

I would style it with some neon accessories for a night out and with a crisp white shirt underneath for work. It could be a fantastic all-events dress! I’m already having visions of the fantastic statement necklaces I could rock with the v-neck line….

  11. Alice, because classic never goes out of style. The style of the dress is so simple but it’ll be perfect for any occasion, just play around with different accessories, shoes and makeup to create many looks.

  12. You look gorgeous!! I love the dress your wearing so I’m saying the Ashleigh as well, now all I need is a great belt!

  13. Grace would be my choice
Can I just say you look fantastic
Love the comp and thanks so much for the opportunity it score one!!

  14. The GABRIELLA would be perfect as it is adaptable for casual and formal occasions and the swing of the skirt would be nicely feminine for me.

  15. I would choose the Emma, I had a conversation with a stylist the other day and this is the style she said was perfect for me, which is fantastic, but I have nothing like it in my wardrobe nor the money to go out and buy new clothes. So please help me dress the way I’m meant too. 🙂

  16. I’m an Oval shape, and I like both the Ashley and the Anika. But as I’m also very short, the hemline of the Ashley would suit me best.
