I love Hollywood Awards season… The Glitz, the Glamour, the Gowns! Oh My!
I don’t believe on judging other women’s fashion choices… So you won’t be seeing a best/worst dressed list from me – but as far as I’m concerned, Hollywood’s hottest stylists and designers all over the world are showcasing the upcoming trends for 2014, and it’s a great opportunity to look at what’s hot, and take some inspiration for your own wardrobe!
Bright Pop!
I loved Lena Durnham’s bold and bright yellow dress which played up her curves. A peplum always accentuates your curves (or creates them if you are lacking), take a big bright yellow leaf out of Leah’s book and try a bold colour! This one is from City Chic.
Monochrome Chic
This ASOS Day dress gives a similar effortlessly chic monochrome look as the ravishing Amy Adams. We can’t all rock around in full length gowns everyday, but I am loving the monochrome twist – and I’m hoping to see a shift away from pure black and white monochrome in 2014 towards some chic monochromatic colour!
Cape-tavating!!
I cannot tell you how in love I am with this caped look worn by Lupita Nyong’o… And I’m doubly excited that chic Australian designer, Christine Kardashian, recently launched her latest line, including this über chic cape top. It’s a MUST HAVE piece.
Clever Colourblocking
Tay Tay has done a great job of playing up her assets in this great colour block gown – and you can get a similar effect with a smart and versatile Powerfit Bodycon dress from Scarlett and Jo (available at Evans).
Oh so girly
Not to forget our pregnant friends, if you loved Drew Barrymore’s floaty and feminine embellished number, your in luck, because you can pick up a similar maternity dress (available up to size 18) at ASOS.
Details, Details, Details
I love Zooey Deschanel’s quirky style – and this detailed dress is no exception. Grab a little bit of that gorgeous detailed feel with this great top from Autograph.
Mermaid POW!
Ok. So this one is not exactly an ‘Everyday Style’ look, but I was so floored by Olivia Wilde’s mermaid-hotness, that I had to include her. The amazing news is that I found this sensational dress by AX Paris (available through Simply Be) which means you can create your own mermaid hotness for your special event. Or just for doing the vacuuming – who am I to judge in a dress this hot!
Ok, so that’s my round up of Golden Globes fashion, and how to take inspiration from the gorgeous looks to add a little spice to your own wardrobe!
Jo, I absolutely love your take on the fashion from the Golden Globes! Let’s face it – how many of us are ever going to be sauntering down a red carpet with hundreds of paps snapping photos of us? I’m a huge yellow fan so I adore that City Chic top and I’m loving the dress you picked for Clever Colourblocking. The Award for Best Blog Coverage of an Awards Show goes to…YOU!

Wow! Love your take on the Golden Globe. Yeah, I’m not one to judge whether someone’s dress is a hit or miss. I think I’m loving that “cape” look – especially the one you’ve picked from Christine Kardashian!!

I love that you have taken red carpet looks and translated them for the average fashion conscious woman on the street. I love Drew’s maternity chic and the ever fabulous Zoey.
Great post Jo!

That is such a clever interpretation of awards fashion to everyday fashion! I love the cheery yellow, cape style and colour blocking parallels! What an inspirational idea Jo!

Thanks Kalyani! I’m really sad she got so much flack for the yellow – I loved it too!
