Inspired by the 30×30 Challenges set by Kendi (Kendi Everyday) I am setting myself a November Shop What You Got Challenge – and I am hoping that some of you will join along with me too!
What’s the idea?
30 pieces of clothing for 30 days. Pick them out, and remix them to create an outfit everyday.
Whoa – I know right? I never said it was going to be easy.
Why do I want to do it?
I have made no secret of the fact that I am a bit of a shop-a-holic. There are a couple of reasons that I am attracted to the idea of a ‘Shop What You Got’ Challenge.
Firstly, I have recently had the experience of buying something that I forgot I already owned. I forgot that I had a white crop blazer, and bought another one. Now I have *two* very similar white crop blazers. I also have three almost identical chambray denim shirts. It’s a clear sign that I’m getting so out of control – I just don’t know what I have anymore.
Secondly, I realised that I start almost every instagram outfit picture with “wearing my new…”. Somehow I have let it become more than acceptable for me to wear something just once. I am feeling guilty and wasteful and would like to appreciate my clothes a little more. Reuse, recycle and be a little kinder to the earth…
Thirdly, I want to curb my spending in the lead up to the biggest online shopping day of the year “Cyber Monday”. This year, it will be held on the 2nd December – which ties in perfectly with the end of this challenge!
Lastly – I think the remixing your wardrobe to maximise what you’ve got is a great skill, and I’d love to challenge myself to create different outfits using the same key pieces.
I will choose 30 pieces (and post them here so I am not tempted to cheat) and I will try to recycle and remix the items to only wear outfits from those items for the month of November.
Shoes, scarfs and belts are included but jewellery is not.
Weather specific clothing is not included (umbrella, hat, gumboots, raincoat etc) and neither is sleepwear/gymwear/swimming costume/uniform etc. I’m talking about my main outfit for the day. edit: Underwear is not counted either!
I will be giving myself a day off – I’m heading to the races on the 7th November and that outfit will not count. Technically cheating, I know, but I’m being upfront about it. With regards to Aussie Curves Challenges within the Shop What You Got period – swimwear and races have already been covered off by the rules, HOWEVER – the other AC Challenge week outfits will have to come from my/your 30 items – so pick carefully!
I will post my outfit remixes daily and #shopwhatyougot. I will do outfit round-ups on my blog semi-regularly.
I am choosing to curb my clothing shopping for the whole month of November, and save all those $$ for the Cyber Monday sales. This bit is totally optional.
